The London and New York fashion Weeks have drawn to a close and its time to have a look at what sort of outfits and accessories the fashionista about town will be sporting in the coming season. Urban styles for women has shown some not so surprising holdouts from last season and some interesting new directions that will see the styles on the streets across the globe more vibrant than ever. Except for maybe the eighties – where a lot of the inspiration for the new designs seems to be coming from. So what are the new trends when it comes to urban fashion for women?
Make a Bold Statement
For those who want to make a bold statement with their street wear in the coming 2018 season then animal prints – specifically those inspired by the big cats – tigers and cheetah were shown in abundance. Often in bright colors this is a style that is not for the faint of heart, but for those who can pull it off there's a bold statement to be made.
For those in the colder climes it'll be good news to note that fur dyed in a variety of colors seems to have made a comeback. There are both faux versions and for those who are comfortable with the idea real furs as well.
Shades of the Matrix were also in show when models took to the catwalks. Long leather coats with a semi minimalist style were seen in abundance. These were often paired with a pair of sunglasses. This may not be to everyone's taste – it takes a certain something to be able to pull off that dark and brooding look. The only challenge is that these items are bound to be incredibly expensive – and faux just won't do for those looking for an authentic style.
As far as colors were concerned the ‘orange is the new black' mentality has stuck around from last season and still remains incredibly popular with designers.
Two stalwarts returned to the ramps this season and neither is on the face of it that exciting – but some of the executions pointed to comfort still driving sales of urban fashion. The first was the return of floral prints for a variety of outfits and the continued upward trend for so called athletic wear. Tracksuits were seen in abundance. It's not difficult to understand why – they are incredibly versatile. Great for a brunch with the ladies or equally comfortable at the gym they are the genuine article when it comes to a multi-functional outfit. Neck-wear continues to be extremely popular as part of a well put together ensemble. From plain to tartan and even with logos scarves and similar seem to be appearing as parts of outfits from the casual to the slightly more formal street wear applications.
This year it seems like it's going to be an eclectic mix of the new and the classic with a great big helping of the eighties. The streets are going to buzz with new looks.
